Pistol Pistol Pistol, yeah!

Today is Tuesday, so you know what that means?  Only 2 more days until I’ll be on my way to Missouri to go on one of the most epic float trips with the CrossFit Instinct crew.  I have been looking forward to this weekend since the beginning of summer and am getting more and more excited to spend some quality time with my CFers.

Guess what I did this weekend?  I saw half-naked men dance around.  With my boyfriend.  Yep, we went to see Magic Mike!  I wasn’t one of those girls that were going ape sh*t to see it; it was the only halfway decent movie showing so we decided to see what all the hype was about.  Although the men looked good, I wasn’t walking out of the theater with my jaw hanging on the floor.  I guess CrossFit has prepared me well… I get to watch half-naked, good-looking men thrust and hop around all day anyway.  You’ve got nothing on them, Channing (you’re still pretty though).

Yesterday, I went to the store and stocked up for my final two weeks here in BloNo.  I wore my Vibrams, got stared at, and of course, was the topic of conversation with groups of people waiting in my checkout lane.  “Honey, look at those things!”  “Are those comfortable?”  “Good luck walking to your car with those things!”  As usual, I smiled, recited my spiel, and gave them the fakest laughs ever.  If they only knew what was in my head… (No, these are the most uncomfortable shoes ever.  I just think they are so cute I wear them all the time.  Good luck walking? wtf?) Ok, sorry for being a B.  I should expect this stuff if I wear shoes that look like lizard feet.

Guess what I had so much fun doing yesterday?!  Squat clean thrusters.  Three words never looked so sexy together.  Oh, and burpees.  Thanks, Fit Bodies for keeping me in a post-WOD daze all day and making me sore as sh*t today!

After pushing through a fun little chipper today, I decided to try out some pistols…. I did a pistol, man!  Yep, I finally got them.  I got a video, but not until after I had already done about 10 or 15 of them, so they weren’t 100% perfect.  And I’m blog-challenged and my video won’t upload so you just gotta believe me!

Alright guys, I apologize for no pics or anything fun.  My computer is awesome and not wanting to listen to any commands I want it to do.  So I’ll leave you with some CrossFit jokes I found on this website.  And I’m a blonde so I can make fun of them.

Can you believe June’s practically over? That means it’s almost July.  And it’s HOT.  It’s perfect for people like me who keep their apartment at 78 degrees and feel comfortable!  It also means that working out at 5:15am is glorious and I don’t sweat out 10 pounds just during the warm up!

Speaking of WODs, I have had some killer ones since I last wrote.  Let’s start with last week…

Lately, Wednesday’s have been my day off since my schedule works around it and having a planned day keeps me really consistent.  BUT, on the Wednesday that I decided to WOD, I got stuck with doing tons of my weaknesses.  Running and burpees. Puke.

WOD:

There was some “trouble” with our lovely neighbor next door who decided that the members doing farmer’s carry in the parking lot was hazardous and he caused quite the scene.  Little does he know, we renamed the WOD for him.  CrossFitters seem harmless until they get their WOD interrupted! Ha!

On Saturday, I hit up a SWOD (sister WOD) with Molly and it was a beast.

5 Rounds:

BRUTAL.

That’s my attempt of writing down my times during my rests.  It was fun to chase someone on the WOD and successfully stay unbroken for all the swings.  SWODs are always so fun!

Yesterday, I got to do my favorite girl WOD- Annie!  I got 6:36 and am not sure if it’s a PR, but I know my last time was 6:30-something so it’s whatever.  Let’s just say that my abs are screaming at me and I have abmat @ss.  I didn’t realize it until I got in the shower… Yeeeeoooooch!

Then I got to make sure that my clavicle bones were strong and do some hang cleans today:

I have been obsessed with all types of cleans since I was taught how to do them, so I was pumped to see some heavier sh*t thrown in there!  Now my collar bones and thumbs kill, but it’s all worth it in the end!!

In one month, I will be in Missouri with a boat load of CrossFitters floating down the river!  It’s going to be one crazy @ss time and I am so ready to do it! I can only imagine how many handstand attempts and woozy WODs will be tried… As the saying goes, work hard, play hard, right?!

I must leave now.  I’m sitting outside (yes, it says it’s 98 degrees – told you I’m a freak) and just looked up and saw 3 wasps nests.  Bzzzzzz.

Can you believe it’s Monday, June 18th?!  I’ve been graduated for over a month, I’m halfway done with my internship, and it’s already the third week of the Paleo challenge.  Speaking of that, I had to subtract points for cheating for the first time since the start of the challenge.  Saturday night, I had a glass of wine and Sunday I had wings… and they were pretty darn yummy.

But, I’m 100% back on track and didn’t feel too icky after divulging into non-Paleo goodies; I’m just proud I didn’t give into any of the homemade pies or cookie dough cupcake (what the f, YUM) that were at the Farmer’s Market.  That place would be the ultimate place to get cheat food, take it home, curl up and nibble all day.  Good thing I know that side effects and would have a week full of headaches, clothes that don’t fit, and constant trips to the porcelain throne.

Yesterday, I went to the gym and got to do a WOD with fellow beasts; they did 4 workouts but I peaced out after 1 so I could spend some more time with my boy before leaving again for the week.  Here’s the one I did partnered with Molly:

If I wasn’t partnered with her, I probably wouldn’t have gone as hard!  It’s so nice to have someone to work with and push you harder than normal, especially when it’s your older sister who you’ve been trying to catch up to since the old days at Muscle Corp.  and playing hours of 1-on-1 basketball on the driveway!

The most exciting thing I did this weekend was REGISTER FOR MY CROSSFIT LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATION!!!!!!!! I wanted to do it before the end of 2012 and finally gave in and signed up.  September 8th & 9th are going to be dates that I will never forget.  What makes it better is that I get to go with 6 fellow CrossFit Instinct members – I. Cannot. Wait.  I went to bed feeling excited, nervous, and happy with the decision I made.

Then my ‘beautiful’ iPhone harp alarm went of at 4am, letting me know that I need to get my @$$ up and go workout.  I knew what I had coming because I woke up around midnight and checked the WOD for Fit Bodies.  More hamstring work with overhead stuff… hellooooo triceps and legs!  All I can say is that walking up the 3 flights of stairs to my apartment isn’t cool.  Every step I feel like I’m going to fall backwards.  Needless to say, carrying 10 bags full of veggies and meat up those stairs felt like a WOD.

After catching my breath and gathering myself, I spent 2 hours cooking!  Thanks to Nelly radio on Pandora, it made things go a lot quicker.

So this was my attempt at making zucchini fritters… they didn’t come out very pretty or presentable.  But, they taste awesome so that’s all that matters!  I didn’t really measure anything too precisely but here’s what’s in them:

-6 small shredded zucchini

-1 red onion

-1/2 cup broccoli cabbage mix

-Cholula sauce

-3 eggs

-1/4ish cup coconut flour

-spices

This picture is only half of what it made… I am cooking for all week so now I have plenty!

 

Doesn’t this look like puke? Haha it looks disgusting, but is actually pretty good.  I’m going to use it on meats and mix in with tuna and salmon.  I will probably add other stuff to it too, like avocado or paleo mayo, depending on my food mood.

This was basically to get rid of some things in my kitchen, so it’s trial and error with ingredients.  I really just wanted to throw raw kale in the food processor and see what happened… and this happened.  Puke-looking, um, Pesto?

 

My favorite!  Paleo Mayo .  This mixes with everything and can be tweaked into any flavor with some spices and imagination!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

…and this is what happens when you get lazy scraping the mayo out of the food processor.  I was sad that almost 2 tbsp. of my beloved mayo was now inedible and all over the floor.  Grr.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I also cooked up some beets, eggs, and meat.  Now all I have to do all week is eat.  And I never ever have problems with that!

 

Blueberries and Jelly Beans

Having less ‘real’ school work has been amazing.  People always told me to “cherish my time in college” because once I started working in the real world, I would want to go back in time.  I have never been the I-love-school type of person; I like to work, especially when it’s something I’m passionate about.  Even though I just graduated, I would not want to go back to daily classes, homework, tests, constant deadlines, and minimal income, if any (well, I’m still getting through that last part, but only a couple more months as an unpaid intern).

With that said, I have had more time to get more involved in the things I love – cooking, blogging, reading, having weekends with no homework (well, besides a weekly report due), and listening to some of my favorite audio.  Do you know who Dr. Wayne Dyer is?  You should.  My mom introduced me to his work a few years back and things have totally changed for me.  Since I have more time to actually listen to things while I’m not studying or homework, I’ve started becoming more aware of a number of things… and it feels lovely!

Anyway, since most of my days start at 4am, I am back home around 3pm, at the latest.  My internship supervisor is so cool and usually let’s us leave early, so some days I’m home around noon.  On those days, I take advantage of it and head out to the pool for a bit to enjoy the rare warm weather of Illinois (and that fact that I can walk to the apartment pool!).  When I’m not prepping or cooking food, writing papers, cleaning, or doing other fun things, I’m gathering music.

I’m obsessed with music.  One of my nicknames (thanks to my sisters) is DJ C-Dub; come to find out, there actually is a real DJ C-Dub… that sucker stole my name!  The past week, I have downloaded some monstrous songs and blasted them in my car and in  my apartment.  Wanna know what I listen to?  Anything from Young Jeezy, Five Finger Death Punch, Skrillex, LMFAO, Chris Brown, Chevelle… then the soothing voice of Dr. Wayne Dyer.  If people heard all this (maybe they do), they probably think I’m an ADD music-aholic.  And they’re right.

I also just got on Spotify! Hooray!

I had a dream last night.  A dream about cheating on the Paleo challenge.  What’s wrong with me and dreams about eating bad food?  I’m not even craving anything bad and am totally cool where I’m at.  In the dream, I ate… get ready… jelly beans.  Ew, seriously?  That’s not even a food I would ever imagine slipping into a sugar coma for.  Then I lied about it and didn’t write on my recording sheet that I cheated.  I’m a lying jelly bean eater cheater.  Can you tell I have an exciting life?

One thing that is exciting is that I love my internship and working with young athletes.  There’s this one kid there (he’s probably 10 or so) who told me he was too tired to do anything because he was up late talking to his girlfriend on Facebook.  He then continued to tell me that they talked about marriage and that he wants 3 or 6 kids.  I thought it was pretty hilarious and kept egging him on, but it was kind of creepy how serious he was about everything.

Random facts of the day:

-Blueberries are my new obsession.  Expensive, but worth it if you only eat them one at a time.  I even brought them to a movie with me.

-There are killer pigeons that live outside of my window.  And they sh*t on my car like there’s no tomorrow…. and it kind of looks like blueberries.  Sick.

-My legs feel like they got beat with a bat while I was sleeping.  Thank you deadlifts, front squats, and squat cleans.

-Paleo challenge.  Almost 2 weeks down, 5 more to go.  Then time for the most epic float trip ever!

Regionals Review

Hi!  Did you miss me?  It’s been a while… big girl life has started to take over and just as I’m getting into the groove of my schedule, it’s going to all change starting Tuesday!  Helloooo again to early mornings!

Well, one the most exciting weekends of the year is over – CrossFit Regionals.  I got to watch two of my coaches compete and kick some CrossFit a$$!  Watching beasts knock out some heavy weights and crazy WODs got the gears in my head turning again and now I have even more goals to add to my list.  I would love to compete with a team there someday, maybe in two years…. Bottom line, I want to be a bada$$ beast like the girls there.  It also was reassuring to see tall girls there… there’s hope!

I had a gazillion pictures and videos, but they didn’t do justice to seeing it all in person.  Watching the top athletes do muscle-ups with ease and throw around big weights makes everything look easy.  Then I remember how much hard work it takes and how much pain and time is put into it and it makes me want to grow up to be a CrossFit athlete.  Screw work and everything else.  Let’s WOD all day and play in the gym.  Who needs all that other stuff?

Speaking of stuff, I bought more clothes.  That means that almost 90% of my closet is stuffed with CrossFit related shirts… not to mention headbands and knee socks.  I think I have more knee socks than regular socks… I have a problem.

So what did I do on the way home from the most motivating weekend ever??  Cheated.  Me and Cole stopped at this small place and decided we deserved a small treat after three days of all-out cheering.  We split some cheesy pub chips and then I got pulled pork and nibbled at a few baked beans.  Have I mentioned that my body doesn’t agree with dairy?  Cheese is the worst.  We were only about an hour away from being home so when we were about 25 minutes away, it felt like I was getting stabbed in my stomach and I knew the cheese had hit.  I learned my lesson.  Then it started raining ungodly hard so it was not a fun drive the rest of the way home.  Cheese + Caroline = sick.  I won’t go into details, ha!

My body is still sore, thanks to my sister for writing me up a Westside Barbell workout to help build up my upper body strength.

I felt like a T-Rex when I was done.  I had to drive back up to Bloomington right after this and holding the steering wheel felt terrible.  Good thing I have knees that help drive =)

Know what else I found out I’m doing Saturday?  COMPETING in a small competition.  OMG I’m already nervous.  I love competing but sometimes my nerves take over, so I figure that if I want to eventually make it to Regionals, I need to learn to stay calm.  Hopefully they have on-sight bathrooms.  Even though this is nothing like Regionals, you have to start somewhere right?   But, it will be a blast so I’m excited!

Then that night is a 2-year CrossFit Instinct party!  #pumpedcity.  Let’s just say that there is probably going to be some drunken handstands, pullups, pistols, and other fun things involved.  CrossFit people are so fun!

Oh, and I got to see Chevelle in concert last night.  A-freaking-mazing.  They officially are my new favorite; I love them more than I already did.  They sounded awesome.  Be jealous.

Busy as a Bee

I have been a terrible blogger lately.  It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve been able to sit here and aimlessly type about everything that comes to mind; it’s been a hectic week and probably will be for the next 2 weeks!  Saturday was my mom’s birthday, Monday was my birthday, I have 3 finals this week, party on Friday, Graduation Saturday, and I have to be moved out of my place by Saturday.  Then Monday is the first day of my internship.  Whoa.  All so exciting!!!

Needless to say, I haven’t made any new food this week.  Come to think about it, I have nothing in my fridge right now… just some hard-boiled eggs and shredded zucchini. Yeah… time for the store tonight!  And most likely I won’t be making anything new or interesting, unlike my sister! ( <—- link to HER blog with some good recipes and pics!)

You know what always makes my day? Especially on my birthday? Flowers!

Both my mom and my sister got me some beautiful flowers! =) Lovely!

My other sister cooked me an amazing Whole30 dinner!  It’s so nice to have your sister living in the same college-town as you! And one that is willing to cook, make it Whole30, and make it taste super good!

Lettuce wraps!

We had some good (and needed) laughs over some TV shows and got to chatter up our excitement for Wednesday afternoon.  We are both done with finals that day, she defends her thesis, and we will both be done with school!!! Know what that means?  We’re goin’ to The Pub!  So today will be my official last day of eating/drinking clean.

Now, I’m not going to go out and shove my face with cheese balls, candy, chips, and fried chicken.  No, I’m just going to drink something that’s not coffee, tea, or water for the first time in over 6 weeks.  I plan on continuing eating clean, even when McDonald’s, the ultimate hangover food, is right down the road.  Some of you may be shunning me for taking a break from all this cleanliness to go out for some drinks, but what did you do to celebrate your college graduation and 22nd birthday? Hmmm??  You only live once, right?

I hope my inner-thigh soreness starts to go away though.  As always, the past few WODs have made me walk funny and have made it uncomfortable to sit.  Just in time for studying and sitting through hours of testing!

Oh, just try to tempt me!

Check your calendars.  Today is officially Tempt Caroline with Everything Day.  It started during my 1 o’clock class when my teacher made everyone cupcakes. And I love cupcakes.  Then, I went to Schnucks and they had SAMPLES of the Lofthouse cookies… Seriously, when are there ever just free cookies sitting out? Especially those melt-in-your-mouth, icing so good cookies.  Next, Barnes & Noble had someone from their Starbucks walking around handing out little cups of their Mocha Chip Frappuccinos with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle.  Thank you, society, for making my will power stronger.

I think having a killer WOD a few hours prior also helped me.  I think I could have walked faster on my last 200m run, I was freakin’ beat.  And the humidity was at 200% so it was nice and easy to breathe (not).  But I would have this weather any day over winter!

After all that madness and my temptation-filled hours, I came home and cooked, cooked, cooked.  And did a sh!tload of dishes…. All while listening to Pandora.  What station you ask?  The artist’s name rhymes with fiddle gone.  Get it?  Let’s just say it was bumpin’ in here.
